“Perfect choice”
Booked for a semi-private tour as a cruise ship shore excursion as we wanted to be in a small group (14) and avoid the inevitable shopping experiences. Pre-cruise we had prompt & Informative interaction with Chris. On the morning we were met by Mete our guide & driver Ali who quickly and efficiently negotiated us out of the port and onto the mini-bus ahead of the crowds. Mete explained the drive would be approx. 20 mins and we would enter the Ephesus site from the top and work our way downhill where Ali would meet us at the exit. Even though this was late April there were still a good number of people. The site is exposed so very hot with little shade and the marble stones can be quite slippery to walk on so care is needed. The Terrace Houses were part of this complex and can be entered for an additional fee (which we had included) and are highly recommended (not least because they are under cover) as they give a good idea of life in that period with the decor and lay out of the houses of the more affluent. This area is negotiated by a one way system of purpose built stairs. Lunch was at a typical Turkish taverna at an extremely reasonable extra cost and Chris’s husband came to check that all was well so far. After lunch our tour continued with visits to House of the Virgin Mary (the waters here are said to have curative properties so if you want to take some bring a bottle), St John’s Basilica & The Temple of Artemis which are all in separate but nearby locations. These areas were much less busy. Mete was an excellent guide both personable and with a knowledge well beyond the superficial. He spoke to us on a broad range of topics covering both modern and ancient Turkey. Chris met us at the end of the tour confirming the personal touch we felt all along from this company. We were extremely happy with the tour and Mete in particular and would have no hesitation in recommending.
